Synopsis

Jason Lightstone, his estranged wife Linda, and their 7-year-old daughter Trudy travel to Greenwich, Connecticut, to celebrate Christmas with his mother Gertrude, his sister Alva, her new boyfriend and want tobe-action star Morgan Steel, and Alva's online streamer son Bertrude. Finding an old walkie-talkie for Trudy to "talk to Santa," Jason and Linda overhear her one and only wish: to be reunited with her family. Santa Claus arrives at the Lightstone estate drunkenly delivering gifts, where the caterers reveal themselves to be mercenaries with Christmas-themed codenames. Led by "Mr. Scrooge", they slaughter the staff and take the family hostage.

One of the henchmen discovers Santa, whose gunfire scares away the reindeer, and they fight until Santa knocks him out of a window to his death. Santa, stranded, decides to save Trudy and her family from Scrooge, who demands $300 million in cash from the vault of the mansion. Santa dispatches another henchman and takes his radio, tuning in to Trudy's channel, where he discovers the mercenaries on his magical naughty list. When Trudy's walkie-talkie is discovered, Jason informs their captors that she is only pretending and that Santa Claus is not real, prompting her to flee and hide in the attic. Santa comforts Trudy over the radio by revealing that he was once Nikamund the Red, a bloodthirsty Viking warrior, and that he finds solace in his 1,100 years of marriage to Mrs. Claus. Mr. Scrooge's henchman Krampus forces the family to present their gifts to Gertrude, who is surprised by a card from Jason.

Santa is wounded and kidnapped by Scrooge, who has a childhood grudge against Christmas. Santa's knowledge of their true identities persuades henchmen Gingerbread and Candy Cane that he is real, and he escapes through the chimney using his magic, despite the fact that his magic sack is burned. Gertrude's private "kill squad," led by Commander Thorp, arrives, but they are in cahoots with Scrooge and kill Morgan when he attempts to flee. Scrooge threatens Linda after discovering the vault empty, and Jason confesses that he stole the money and was planning to flee with his wife and daughter, as he explained in his card to his mother. He reveals the money hidden outside in a nativity scene, and Gertrude forgives him as part of the secret Lightstone rite of passage (having stolen her company from her grandfather), choosing him as her heir.

Santa retreats to a shed, where he discovers a sledgehammer and brutally slaughters the kill squad. Trudy builds traps inspired by Home Alone, killing Gingerbread. Candy Cane prepares to shoot her, but Santa kills her. Scrooge orders the hostages to be killed, but Alva, Linda, and Bert kill Krampus instead. Scrooge and Thorp flee into the woods, pursued by Santa, with the money and a captive Gertrude. Linda eliminates the final mercenary, and Trudy witnesses her parents' reunion with a kiss. Santa is lured into crashing into a cabin by Scrooge, who discovers himself on the naughty list and decides to kill him because he blames Christmas for ruining his childhood. Scrooge wins the fight, but is killed instantly when Santa uses his magic to drag him up the cabin's chimney, crushing and eviscerating him.

Thorp, who is killed by Gertrude, fatally shoots Santa in the back. Despite Jason's efforts to keep Santa warm by burning some of the money, Santa succumbs to his wounds. Trudy inspires her family to declare their faith in Santa, and he is resurrected, admitting that he still does not fully comprehend how Christmas magic works. Santa's reindeer return (with a note from Mrs. Claus and a new sack of presents), and he bids Trudy farewell before flying off to finish delivering gifts, his faith in Christmas restored.
